Tips for safer drinking

  • have something to eat before you go out
  • pace yourself by taking smaller sips
  • choose drinks that are not as strong
  • skip some rounds and have a soft drink in between
  • never mix alcohol with drugs
  • remember - pub measures can be large and you may drink more that you realise

 

Too much alcohol can be a cocktail for violence

Alcohol is a major factor in violence, with young men more at risk. To avoid trouble, remember:

  • don't feel under pressure to get drunk
  • be aware when you are drunk you may appear threatening to others - this may affect how they behave towards you
  • avoid violence by talking your way out of potentially aggressive situations and avoid using aggressive body language or words
  • if you start a fight the consequences can be severe - you may receive a criminal record
