Best Bar None Overview

What's it all about

The main aim of Best Bar None is for licensed premises to work in partnership with the authorities, including the police, the council and fire service, to make Newcastle a safer city to live, visit, work and socialise.

The scheme works by promoting and encouraging best practice and rewarding venues who achieve high standards.

National studies show that violent incidents are more likely to occur in certain bars, pubs, clubs than others. Factors associated with this include restricted access to the bar, overcrowding, poor management and permissive social environments communicated through pub/club policies and staff behaviour. Irresponsible drink policies also have a part to play. It is these factors that Best Bar None tackles head on.

By joining the scheme, licensees are playing their part in creating a safe and vibrant city by signing up to a national benchmark of good practice.
