Tourism Tyne and WearTourism Tyne & Wear and NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) are working with and supporting Best Bar None with the goal of recognising Best Bar None accreditation as a quality standard to promote to visitors to the City.

NGI logoTourism is worth over £1.9billion a year to Tyne & Wear, with over £680million being generated in Newcastle alone. Of this, groups of visitors coming in to NewcastleGateshead to experience the legendary nightlife is one of the biggest markets with visitors staying overnight in hotels and guest houses, eating in restaurants, enjoying activities & attractions, shopping, drinking in bars, pubs and clubs and spending large amounts of money.

As the Area Tourism Partnership and destination marketing organisation, Tourism Tyne & Wear and NGI have a responsibility to promote the destination to all visitors and the businesses which serve this market. We are committed to promoting a quality offer to ensure visitors enjoy the best experiences possible and make repeat visits.

Best Bar None accreditation offers assurances of a safe, sensible drinking environment and we are now working with Safe Newcastle and Best Bar None partners to build customer service and quality of welcome into the accreditation so that BBN accreditation also means a venue offers a quality experience for its customers and the region’s visitors.

From 2010 onwards, Tourism Tyne & Wear and NGI have committed to promote Best Bar None accredited venues (where the scheme applies) in visitor information, profiling the scheme and what it means for visitors, and promoting all Best Bar None accredited businesses on our web sites and in our printed literature where appropriate.

Newcastle City CouncilNewcastle City Council, "The City Council and the Licensing Authority fully endorse the Best Bar None scheme. It allows us to work in an effective partnership with the licensed trade whilst importantly at the same time, award and recognise the responsible operators who have embraced the ethos of Best Bar None.”

“The leisure economy, which includes all licensed premises which operate in both the daytime and night-time economies, is recognised by the City Council and the Licensing Authority as very important for the development of Newcastle. We also recognise the pressures from many sources that the licensed trade continues to face and we look forward to the continued partnership working that the Best Bar None scheme represents.” Steven Savage, Director of Regulation and Public Protection
