Background to Best Bar None
The Best Bar None accreditation scheme was pioneered in Manchester in 2003 by Greater Manchester Police as a means of setting a minimumtrading standard in the city, and promoting positive relations between operators, the local police and local council.
In 2004 the Best Bar None Awards took place at the Lowry in Manchester, and the success was evident from the number of venues that were accredited under the scheme - fifty-nine venues received the Best Bar None seal of approval, and the right to print the 'Best Bar None' logo on their promotional material to let revellers know that they are working hard to keep customers safe.
The scheme saw a 9% reduction of alcohol related crime & disorder. Due to the success of the scheme, it is now being rolled out across the country.
Safe Newcastle launched the scheme in 2006 and had 51 venues accredited. The 2007 scheme has seen an increase in 16 venues achieving accredited status, with 67 venues gaining the Best Bar None seal of approval.
